Delfina Brea and Tamara Icardo tramples over Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaria in Málaga Open 2021
Málaga Open 2021 semi-finals were dominated by Delfina Brea and Tamara Icardo, beating second-seeded Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaria.
This highly anticipated match had audiences at the edge of their seats!
Both pairs have won the last two tournaments and started the game at center court at equal footing. This high-tension match had the first four games all ending with a broken serve. Brea and Icardo brought home the bacon after breaking two more times and winning the first set 6 to 3.
Brea and Icardo oozed confidence and took advantage of their momentum, taking the early lead in the second set. Breaking serves twice, they went up 5-1 and even had match points. But Josemaria and Sánchez did not go down without a fight.
Just when Josemaria and Sánchez thought they could still salvage this game, Brea and Icardo went straight for the jugular with their offensive.
One of the favorite couples to the title Paula Josemaría and Ariana Sánchez was on fire. In the first set, they made too many unforced errors. They managed one pull forward, and it was in the golden point. But Delfina Brea and Tamara Icardo did not let them enter the match at No. 2. In the first game of the second set, they already conceded a break.
Delfina and Tamara dashed straight to victory with a partial entry of 4-0. Completely dominating their rivals, who could barely open their locker in the fifth game.
The tension rose on 5-2 and service for Delfina and Tamara. At this point, they have wasted two match balls and were starting to waver. Nerves that triggered errors left the door open for Ari and Paula, but they couldn’t steal the match.
They kept serving and broke serve, making it 5-4 and a gold point. After tough rallies and heated exchanges, it was still the Brea-Icardo pair that dominated. They won Saturday’s game 6-3 6-4 and head to Sunday’s final, where they will once again meet Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay, as they did in the Valencia Open 4 weeks ago.
