Size Matters: Padel Court Dimensions
If you’re a padel player, you’ve probably wondered: isn’t the padel court the same size as the platform tennis court? They are not the same, despite their similarities. Here’s everything you need to knnow about padel court dimensions
Nowadays, there are a plethora of racket sports to choose from, and let’s face it: it may be overwhelming at times. Pickleball, paddle tennis, and padel are just a few examples.
What is the length and width of a padel court?
Padel courts are rectangular with solid walls and are 32ft 8in (10 meters) wide and 65ft 7in (20 meters) long (fully on the ends, partially on the sides). A net with a height of 34.6in in the middle (88cm) and 36in on the edges divides the playing area into two halves (92cm).
Although they seem to be identical from the outside, they vary not only in game dynamics but also in many other characteristics, including as the size of the court and its features.
Surprisingly, the playing area in padel is more than that in tennis (singles). In terms of playing space, the other modalities (paddle tennis and pickleball) are around half the size of a tennis court.
As a last point to consider, the height of a padel court should be at least 19ft 7in (6m) clear of obstructions. New padel court designs propose raising the minimum height to 26ft 2in (8m).
Lines of service
In the sport of padel, the court is rectangular and is separated into two halves by a net. A service line runs parallel to the net on either side of the court.
On both sides, the service lines are spaced 22ft 8in (6.95m) apart. A perpendicular line called the center service line divides the region in between.
The lines must constantly contrast with the color of the floor to improve visibility. White and black should be the colors of choice for padel line flooring.
Net in padel tennis
Now that we’ve learned all there is to know about the court’s dimensions, let’s take a closer look at the net.
The net in padel is somewhat lower in the middle than in many racquet sports. It must be 34.6in (0.88m) tall in the middle and 36in (0.92m) tall on the sides.
The net must be 32ft 8in or 10 meters long and attached at the end to two lateral poles with a maximum height of 41in or 1.05m. There may not be any gaps between the net’s ends and the posts. It must be completely stretched, even if it is not tense.
The net posts should have rounded edges to provide player safety and protection from hits. Because the posts are part of the playable court, they should be situated such that their outer edge aligns with the court’s lateral bounds (metallic fence, opening).
The net must be covered on the top side with a white strip running the length of it, covering the tension wire underneath it, as per safety precautions.
