No Strings Attached: How to Show Love for Your Padel Shovel
When it comes to you and your padel racket there’s no such thing as a casual relationship! The shovel is your buddy for good times and bad times in the padel court so you have to take good care of it. Here’s a guide on how to show love to your padel buddy:
Everyone knows that what makes padel apart from other padel sport is its unique racket. You heard that right! It of a kind of shovel that you only get to use in this sport.
Padel rackets do not have strings and are usually constructed of carbon fiber and fiberglass. Compared to tennis, this makes it more difficult to get as much spin and slice on the ball. This means padel is all about positioning, control, and having the mental advantage over your opponents. And with that, the racket goes under a lot of wear and tear in games.
Padel tennis rackets, unlike tennis rackets, have poorer overall durability.
While a tennis racket may last you years and years before you have to replace the string, a pedal paddle can last you a few months or perhaps a little more than a year, depending on how you use it.
Here are five padel racket maintenance tips you should follow:
- Don’t let your racket fall to the ground.
- Use the racket protector properly.
- Frequently replace your grip.
- Avoid exposing your racket to excessive hot or cold conditions.
- Invest in a high quality padel bag.
Defying gravity
Sometimes we get too lazy to bend down and pick up the ball, so we get to see those that actually shovel the racket to pick up balls. This is padel blasphemy!
It is pretty easy to damage your racket, and you don’t want to dent the edges with this behavior. Some manufacturers even instruct resellers to inform their consumers of this when purchasing a new racket.
When you strike the ground, you create several tiny fractures in the frame. As time passes, the fractures get bigger and migrate slowly to the center of the bat.
A racket grip and protector will be your best friend’s armor
Your racket guard is essential for maintaining your padel racket. You should firmly wrap the protection around the top of the racket. It should cover as much of the frame as feasible.
I know how simple it is to strike the walls when reaching for a ball. If you do not safeguard your racket, the frame may be destroyed. The frame is the most vital component of your racket. Therefore if it breaks, your bat will be gone quickly.
Cracks will get larger until they reach the center of your racket.
Please spend some time applying it to the correct location. Suppose you installed the racket protector incorrectly and put it on loosely. In that case, you risk accumulating dirt and residue on your racket head. When the protector moves, the racket produces a rattling sound, and it will not be adequately protected.
Out with the old in with the new!
When you play often friction and movement will destroy your shovel. Remember to replace your grip as soon as possible when this happens.
During the warmer season, during the summer, I recommend that you replace your grip every week. Your hands are sweating, and if you’re utilizing the old grip, it’s more difficult to maintain a firm hold on your shots. It makes no difference whether you have a high-quality racket; without a firm grip, your strokes would be ineffective.
Rain or shine protect your racket
It’s common sense to protect your racket from both heat and cold. Don’t forget moisture. All these things will cause deterioration to the racket, and it’s best to store your equipment at room temperature.
